Wow! The family turkey projects are fabulous. Here is a slide show. Enjoy!

Here is the first of many books our class will be publishing.
This story was written by Brianna.

Today we had a very special visitor. Annie, one of the characters from Brainpop Jr.com, came to visit our class. We took her on a tour of our school and wrote stories about our adventures. In the next few days, I will be sharing some of the stories the students wrote.

In writing, we have been learning to write descriptions. We used our five senses to describe apples. We made bubble maps describing apples. Then we used the maps to write descriptions of apples. Here are pictures of our writing.

Our class participated in an online project called the O.R.E.O. Project. Students from all over the country attempted to stack oreo cookies. Each child is given two attempts with the best attempt recorded. Students practiced counting and tallying. They also compared numbers and found the difference between the numbers. Our class average was 17 cookies. Jacob stacked the most with 23 cookies.
The students then made sculptures using the creme filling and the cookies. I was amazed at how creative the students were. Here is a slide show of their creations.

Wow! The first week went by so quickly. This week we not only learned class rules and procedures, we reviewed letters, kindergarten sight words, writing sentences, and we learned about patterns. I read many books to the students this week. Our favorites were "First Day Jitters" and "The Crayon Box That Talked."

What a fantastic first day of school! First of all, there were no tears - from the students nor the parents. :) The students came in ready to learn. We read two stories today. The first one was "First Day Jitters". Ask your child who Sarah, the main character in the story, is. The second story was "The Night Before First Grade".
This year we will be using Thinking Maps to help organize our thoughts. We completed our first map today about ourselves.
At the end of the day, we went to music and then went home. I am exhausted, but happy that the first day went so well. Thank you parents for helping to make the day a success by sending in necessary supplies.

I am playing with a new program and thought you all might like to see these. Do you remember them from the beginning of the year?

Here is a Brain Pop video about the swine flu. I know several of the students have made comments about the flu. I hope this is a useful tool if your child is concerned.

First of all, I need to apologize for not updating the Blog sooner. Thank you for all of you who keep checking the blog.
Secondly, I need your help. I have created a short survey about this school year and my class. Please click on the link below to go to the survey. You opinions are important to me and my growth as a teacher.

Last week we celebrated the 100th day of school. One of the activities was the bottle activity. Each student brought in a bottle with 100 of the same kind of object. Students wrote clues about their bottle. I read the clues and the students guessed which bottle went with the clues. The clues were fabulous! I was suprised how many different kinds of things were brought in. Out of 18 bottles, there were 12 different kinds of objects. Here are the pictures of the bottles.

Our class has met the challenge! We read 1017 books in the past four months. Congratulations to all of the students who became better readers through their participation in this challenge.

These are a little late, but I thought you would enjoy seeing them anyway.

January 12 our class will welcome Miss Lazauski. Miss Lazauski is a senior intern from the University of Central Florida. She will be with our class until April 24th. She will be a great asset to our class.

Here are some pictures of our gingerbread house creations. The kids did an awesome job.
